Thank you to everyone who joined us for Drama Night and our Family Potluck! The children and families seemed to really have an enjoyable evening!
September’s Family Event is our Open House, which will be held on Thursday, September 22nd from 5:45 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. We will start the evening with pizza and drinks for dinner and have a presentation by Maggie McKiernan about Child-Centered Environments and the Importance of Play. Ms. Maggie has spent the last two months working with staff at Y.E.S. to create child-centered environments in the classrooms and helping plan meaningful activities throughout the day. (The Y.E.S. Staff will take your children into a classroom and make sure they eat dinner so that you are able to listen to the presentation.) After her presentation, she and I will be available to answer any questions that you have and the remainder of the evening will consist of typical activities that the children do throughout the day in your child’s classroom that you and your child can enjoy together.
A couple of months ago I announced that we were one of five schools in Tucson chosen to have the opportunity to have someone come in and do hands on training with staff as well as offer financial assistance for college classes at Pima for staff. After the five visits and reports that were done about the teachers and the progress that was being made, I am excited to announce that we were chosen to move forward with this program. This means full scholarships for staff to obtain their CDA (Child Development Certificate) through Pima, and more extensive hands on training for staff in their classrooms continuing with Maggie McKiernan throughout the next year and eight hands on training/visits from Lisa Murphy (a.k.a. “The Ooey Gooey Lady”) the end of January/beginning of February. I am beyond excited and so thrilled that we have been given this opportunity. You will see many positive changes over the next few months and if you have questions about why things are being done, please feel free to ask me or any staff member.
As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call during the day or pull me aside when you drop off or pick up your child. Also, there is a basket of scratch paper in front of the payment box for you to write me a note and put it in the payment box and I will get back to you asap. -Ms. Carri
Please be sure to keep your accounts current. Tuition is due on Mondays and is past due after Wednesday. There is a $15.00 late fee that will be charged. Scholarship families must keep their accounts current to continue to qualify for the scholarship. If you have a need to make payments arrangements, please speak to Carri directly. If you pay with checks, please include your child’s name in the “Memo” part of the check. To avoid confusion or incorrect information, please direct any questions regarding your account to Carri only.
EIIR “Blue” Cards
Please make sure to update your child’s blue card whenever there are changes to addresses, phone numbers, authorized people who can pick up your child, etc. Whenever there is an illness or emergency, we look at your child’s blue card and call the phone numbers that you provide. Any staff member can provide this for you so that you can make any necessary changes.
It is important that we have a general idea of how many children we will have for the day by 9:30 every morning. This helps us prepare the right amount of meals and staff accordingly for the day. If your child will not be here by 9:30, please call and let us know whether your child will be attending or not. Also, we are required by Arizona Department of Health Services to keep a log of all illnesses from children and staff. If your child is going to be out sick, please call and let us know so that we can keep track of illnesses.
Children love to celebrate their birthday at school with their friends and they are welcome to bring in snacks to share. Birthday treats must be store bought (because it’s prepared in a licensed kitchen) and Dr. Fil’s only request is no cupcakes, please. Cookies, pudding or Jell-O Cups, Yogurt, fruit snacks, etc are better choices.
Scholastic Book Orders
Scholastic Book Orders are available on the counter for you to order from if you choose. Every time parents order from Scholastic, we receive bonus points that helps us purchase new books and supplies for the classrooms. Carri has set up an account at scholastic.com so that you can order and pay for the books at home. Orders will be shipped to the school and disbursed when they arrive. To order online go to Scholastic.com. The login information will be attached to the book orders.
In each classroom, there is a file box that consists of art folders for each child. Please check your child’s art folder on a regular basis so that your child can share the activities they’ve been doing in the classroom. We also encourage you to visit your child’s classroom on a regular basis and talk to your child about their artwork hanging on the wall, read a story with them, build a tower with the blocks, or just talk about what they did that day. There is so much that goes on during the day and your child would love to share that with you.
